Alpine CDA 9835
Hi all
Just ordered one of these from Ebay for a good price but have realised that it is the US version and not the 9835R UK version. I assume the R stands for RDS but will lack of RDS be the only difference? For a £200 saving I can live without it!
Question is do I re-sell it and order a UK one and pay the extra or keep it?

Where do you keep your ipod when it is plugged into the adapter and where is your 420i mounted?

Chucked them both in the glove box as they fit rather nicely in there.
I'm looking at setting up smart play lists as scrolling thru 25GB of music using the wheel on the head unit is proving time consuming.

I usually search by artist then track if I want to put something specific on which shortens the search load hugely but to be honest 99.999% of the time it just plays randomly from the whole 6000 track library (almost everything encoded at 320kbps) and I just skip any track that starts which I don't want to listen to.

Best bet is to set all your favourite albums as playlists-I have around 10-15 albums which I change every once in a while when I dock to the P.C. Its a great tool and saves having cds fumbling around all over the place.

I got the UK headunit with RDS (9835 R) and bought the Ipod adaptor. Fitted the control box under the handbrake / arm rest and the ipod in the centre console, with the cup holder open. I always use the leather case. Don't like leaving it in the car overnight, as I've found my Ipod doesn't like the cold.
Arrange all your music on the PC into playlist and let the PC do all the work with a sync Make sure you learn I-Tunes as it can be a little difficult to understand
The headunit is absolutely superb compared to a high end Sony I had before. The control is fantastic once you've sussed it out, and reading the manuals do help.
I however managed to spill a can of redbull over the front, and couldn't get it apart to clean. Had no display or functions and buttons very sticky, so had no alternative then to tip neat alcohol over the front and dry out Seems to work now, but wonder how / where I could get a replacement front cover?
Phill
PS Drying out on the Radiator after the second alcohol clean Don't use the cup holders in the dash with the HU and redbull

There is a delay on the display while searching for a song with the playlists (you've edited on the PC) but you can live with it

On a Clarion 835 i purchased from America, when setting it up, in the menu it gave the option of the increments i wanted to use.
I think you will find most models are international nowadays.
