Default MP3,ICE

I'm not to well up on ICE. and was wondering if you can get a MP3 unit to fit in place of the subaru unit, its to fit a WR1 and hopefully free up the glovebox.
Cheers, Martin

Do you want it to be hard disk based, or cd based?

I was thinking CD but the Dension 20G looks interesting.
How do you install a unit like that in the scoob because the original unit looks very integrall.
Thanks,
Martin

Its easy to install a new head unit, theres a guide in the FAQ. If you want a straignt swap unit then i think Pioneer make a double din one with MP3 cd player in, only ever seen it advertised in the US though, i looked into it a bit and i think you can change the tuning range on the radio so it will work over here (they use a different range in the US) might be wrong though but worth a look.

Personally i got an Mstation a few years ago, 10gb hard drive under the seat like a cd changer would be. You just plug it into you PC and load Mp3s then plug it into the car and play them. Dension make a similar unit, but if i was buying another one i would go for the Dension headunit one for sure.

If you get a unit in America you'll have to change the tuner to pick up the stations. As far as I know we use the same range as the states but stop on different frequencies. Say 102.5 for us and 102.3FM for the, so your station pickup might be weak.
The hard drive ones sound mad only you'll still have fill up the drive via disc. The disc option may be cheaper and lets face it you can get up to nine albums on one cd-r. A few copies burnt on the computer and bobs your uncle. That's how I work it.
best of luck

Hi martin, I installed the pioneer deh 9400 cd/mp3 player in my WR1... Looks good as it's black and matches the surround etc... Although blue lights don't go so well with the green keys. Depending on when your going to do it i'll send you a couple of pics this weekend. I have the dash pocket as well.. Pretty easy to do, just need to upgrade the speakers now...

Ben,
what colour is the dash pocket?
I have been "talking" to Lee at ihavetohave.it and all I need is the subaru/iso adapter and a dash pocket, and away we go!
there is a few weeks wait for the Dension unit so it'll be a while before I instaal it.
Cheers
Martin

I recently bought a Sony Mp3 head unit (CD based) and fitted it myself with no problem.
I have a MY98 which had multichanger mounted in boot.
I shopped around and bought on line. Must say i am very pleased with the result and now ready to upgrade speakers (which is proving to be far more difficult!).

Martin,
What about this one, sounds great, easy to install and looks real cool.

It's a DEH P77MP
About £220 from http://mcs-direct.co.uk/acatalog/Pio...D_Players.html

The Black pocket to fill the gap below is Subaru part number 66128AE000, about £10.

Hope that helps
Dipster

p.s you will also need an iso adapter for the loom, Autoleads Part # PC2-44-4 is the one.
From here http://mcs-direct.co.uk/acatalog/aut..._adaptors.html

I have taken the plunge and I'm going for the Dension DH100IX with 20G hard drive, from www.ihavetohave.it. Check them out plenty of "toys"
They are sending it to me for £300 including the ISO adapter.

So what colour pocket for the WR1???????
