Angry Forester Dash Pocket.....

I have just bought one of these. Am I being really dim (it is late)? Or do I have to drill additional holes in the head unit mounting brackets (the ones that screw onto either side of the radio - as supplied with the car). 'Cos I sure as hell can't see any other way of getting it to fit....

Yes mate

I drilled 2 extra holes on each bracket. One at the back for the round sticky out plastic bit (very technical) and one at the front to secure together with a self tapper.

I fitted an Alpine headunit to my 03 wrx yesterday without the need to drill any extra holes; I used the black Forester pocket (without the flap). The plastic pocket utilises the same bottom holes in the brackets that were used on the original head unit although one is taken up with a plastic lug whilst the other requires a self tapper to secure. With my Alpine head unit I was fortunate that the two remaining holes in the brackets matched perfectly with the mounting holes in the side of the new head unit and was able to use the screws that were used to secure the original HU.

Hope this helps.

Tony,

Thanks. After overcoming my initial annoyance of the 10 minute job that took 1 1/2 hours, I have now successfully drilled the brackets. The pocket seems to fit ok, and look quite smart (silver colour is not quite the same as the dash, but not far off).

Top tip for anyone else that tries this - bolt the brackets together and drill then both at the same time - this makes sure the pocket ends up straight in the dash.

Ming.

I cant see that being a problem. It only takes about 10 miutes to take the head unit out, just take it out and have a play mate. Thats what I did.

Mine would n't fit because the head unit front panel would not rotate to show the cd player, had to mount the unit in the top and the pocket at the bottom.

Just seen on the subaru website that they do a 4 cd storage box that fits below a single din stereo, don't know what it looks like (they don't have a picture) but it might be of some use.

Prompted me to dig mine out the garage and finally do it this morning. Getting the holes in exactly the right place is a bit of a pain, though but looks fine. Mine is a 02 WRX

Why do neither of my local dealers have this part on their system ?

They both say that the part does not exist ? I read out the part numbers to them and no go I have ordered the one thats in the GX/Sport now.

By the way, if you're thinking about using Barretts Subaru in Canterbury for parts, think again Timewasting fcukwits IMHO of course

Well it’s a single din unit it should do, they are only £15 squid, take a chance.

With a bit of fiddling I would make the sucker fit
