I agree with JockyTT. I changed mine for ....
Sony CDXMP40 MP3 player - £125
Infinity 6000cs - £85
pocket/lead - £15 (second hand)
Sound Damping - £30
Total - about £255, budget system that's about 100% better than the original. The original head unit was sold on ebay for £120 so I got some money back too.

If you REALLY want to keep the price down, you could do a lot worse than checking out the cheapest CD player on www.cel-direct.com. I just bought one for my friend this week. £79.99 for a 4x50w Clarion CD player - that's gotta be a bargain! All the basic features you could expect for the budget end of the scale (50watts per channel, loudness control, RDS/EON, RCA pre-out for adding an amp later .... and looks simple to use too). Apart from the price, the other surprising thing is that this stereo has a signal-to-noise ratio of 100dB - that basically means, AFAIK, that it's 10% more efficient at belting the music out to the speakers that almost all other stereos.

Dont suppose you got any pics to see what it looks like and did you do the job yourself
Yes I did it myself. The head unit is very simple to fit provided you use the Subaru pocket & adaptor cable. The Speakers are a bit more involved but within the capabilities of someone who just about knows which end of a screwdriver to hold (i.e. me)
