Default Sub AdvICE please :) - Proper Install?

I've now had it with my 12" Inifinty sub (used to have 2 in a dual box, BOTH now had the same fault, cone thrown too far and ripped off the terminal to insside the speaker wires for the 5th time).

Anyway, I have a Hifonics Son Of Boltar amp which is capable of 1 x 500w @4Ohms or about 1 x 800w @ 2Ohms (so a 4Ohm load or a a Dual Voice Coil 4Ohm to give a 2Ohm load and get the 800w).

Any advice on what I can put on here from your experiences, I used to run 2 Infinity reference 12" subs each with 4Ohm load in Parralel mode and the amp had no problems powering them but I sawed the box in half to make it a single 12" box recently and the car feels quicker so I'm keen to get a single box with a dual voice coil (havent had ANY experience with DVC so I dunno if they're worth the money?).

My other consideration is boot install for the sub, my current box flies around the boot smashing into things despite being velcrod to the carpet, it just takes the carpet with it.

So after sub recommendations and i'll sort out a new box or if anyone knows some decent boot install places or has any advice on making the new box not move around that would be great

audiobahn to a massive array of subs - one will suit ure requirements and covering all price ranges. AFAIK they are good
I trying a cheapo at the moment, usually have kicker squares but money was tight and i bought a pro-plus 12" data rated @ 500rms thats dual voice coil too. To be honest i was very suprised, handles everything i put through it and does sound good.
As for the box, mine is sat facing u as you open the boot to the left side. To pin it i have 2 'L' shaped brackets fixed to the top of the sub box then into the bar/beam/cross section above it. Fits perfect, looks good, black brackets give us your email i will send a pic if thats any use to you.

a unique solution, sure it wont rip your shelf off, its only flimsy up there?

thinking of building an MDF shelf for my 6" kappas too.

Email pic to dave@davetwilley.co.uk

Can I run one of those square kickers with my amp then? sounds nice but they're like £300 arent they, my infinity reference was like £120, but i'm budgeting atleast £200 to do this properly this time

I`m in the process of fitting a fibreglass box to the side space of my 95 uk wagon.
I`m using a RFosgate hx2 10" dual 4 ohm sub.
It used to be in my 206.
It will be powered by a PGold qx900.1 amp.(900 rms @2 ohm)
It has a very punchy accurate sound, it can`t match the sheer welly from 2 subs(due to less surface area) but is more musical.

If there is a demand, I will get my fibreglass contact to make a few to sell.

Hope this helps

I dont think fibreglass has the mass to deal with a 12" sub? is the box atleast filled? is it going to be a snug fit, will be interesting to see some pics when its done

Yeah of course fiberglass has enough mass..
4 layers of 1.5oz matting is bloody strong.. I can stand on it without it breaking.
Its a proper matting and resin type, not the stuff from Halfords in a tin.
Is a custom fit moulded exactly to the contour of the car..for the reasonas you mentioned.

I'm talking about mass not strength, its required to dampen the sound, I dont think fibreglass would be good enough acoustically, I may be proven wrong tho.

Yes its dense enough...look at autoacoustics.. they do a stealthbox.
I will be spraying the inside of the glassed box with dynasheild to help dampen it.
You can also put a small amount of "wadding" inside too.
I`m an ice installer ( in my spare time)so I do have previous experience of these types of enclosures.

Just because people sell things, it doesn't make em good

I would suggest that there may be problems with the rigidity of a fibreglass box if you're going for out and out SPL, but for a 'musical' system at reasonable levels it would be just fine.
