Help me solve the whine :-(
#1
Hi All,
I have a serious problem. I today installed a six channel amp in my E36 M3.
I have put the RCA's down one side and the speaker wires down the other...power comes from the battery in the boot so no interference there.
When the used is switched on I get a whine through the speakers...then if I start the engine the whine gets louder and revving the car makes it worse. I have checked the earth and it is clean at both ends.
The aerial on the car is not connected could this be the problem...also somebody said buy a surpresser could this help...Suggestions please as I want this sorted tomorrow so I can burst a few ear drums over the weekend.
Cheers Matt

Ground Earth loop...
Can be a bugger 2 trace tho.
Start by disconnecting all RCAs at both ends - see if whine is there.
Then add 1 RCA at a time each end at a time & see if it comes back.

NO NO That is your problem, All E36 with boot batteries are renound for this. Make sure the amp and signal cables are as far away from the battery as possible. Use good quality RCA leads (spend at least £25 a set). Get yourself some decent size earth cable attach to the amp, run that to a point on the body of the car sand it down to bare metal and bolt it down using a proper earthing terminal from a decent audio shop and then continue that run to the neg side of the battery. Should do the job.

Also the battery is no where near the RCA leads and the RCA leads are both good ones.

Tried the earth..didn't solve it...in the end ran one set of RCA'S from front rca output on headunit and split into three at the back for front, rear and sub on the amp.
Seems the problem was with the headunit RCA outputs. Sorted now and sounds very good. just lost the sub control on the headunit...oh well ho hum
