Is an amplifier necessary?
#1
I'm planning to add some 6x9's to the rear shelf of a MY02 saloon. I've done the preparation but am now reconsidering the purchase of an amplifier. If I can get away without one then that's good as I'm a little doubtful about fitting it.
Will the 6x9's run OK from the headunit alone, it being a Pioneer DEH M77MP, or should I really consider an amp? I've not got as far as subs yet!
Any thoughts
cheers
Steve

Amps are well worth the cash and are fairly easy to fit, if your not sure how to fit an amp have a search around this forum, i'm sure you will find some help there. Amplifiers throw out a LOT more power with lower distortion levels than a head unit amp. An amp will power your 6 x 9 with ease, depending on the amp you buy of cause, don't go buying some cheap make as you will be dissapointed with the sound quality buy a good name Viper, Alpine,Kenwood ETC. If your still not sure how to fit it see your local ICE store , they will fit it for you at a price though

Edited to say - Leave subs alone for the moment if your not sure about wiring up amps as a sub need an amp for certain

look at it this way...
Headunit has 12v power suppl for: display, functions, internal amp etc
Separate Amp has 12v power supply for amplification only.
Amps are worth their money without a doubt

6x9s are all well and good, but you will knacker your stereo image if you put any power through em compared to the fronts...
You don't need an amp for the rears, but I would recommend an amp for the fronts every time.
