Jensen amps are OK - I have a 2 channel effort running my sub, so I don't notice distortion so much (subs tolerate more distortion). However, I would use better quality amps for main speakers esp if they are decent.

Phoenix Gold have a fantastic reputation.

Is it the "effort" bit? I am so ashamed of having Jensen in my car that it is hidden on the back face of my sub box and cannot be seen! However, I only got it cos for £80 it freed up two nice Kenwood channels to let me blast the fronts. Through this sub it really does sound as good as the Kenwood. Now I know some would think that that does not mean much at all, but I'm not going down that path again. To me it sounds fab and makes the walls shake like no other sub/amp combo I've heard at this sort of money. The amp has a little 6dB 40Hz boost which makes the thing go ape, and it doesn't get hot. Despite getting only 150W, the bandpass box gives massive SPL and I think it is fab! Probably a bit like the "Deathbox" you have over there. I could not believe an 8" sub went so loud so easily. And yes I've heard 10" sealed and 15" ported (the latter with 500WRMS), and I prefer my cheapo "effort". Hits even harder.

LOL!Yes John,it was the "effort" thing. No offense intended here. Please don't take it that way.I've just never heard an amp(or much else either)called an "effort".I like it. ))
Just my warped sense of humor John. For your needs I can see the Jensen doing well.I remember hearing that Jensen was bought out by a rather larger manufacturer(name escapes me though)and they recently put out a $300 aluminum component set that's gotten excellent reviews.

It is quite common phraseology for "stiff assed brits" to use!

See you around. No offence taken of course.

Interestingly, InCars datazone give the Jensen XA6040LX a score of 68% - "excellent value for money with bass performance close to the best" (!)

I have uploaded 13 pages of scanned GIFs of ICE data to my website

Thumbs up

Lots of info there John.Great reference site.I still don't see Adire Audio yet.I guess it's going to take a while.Everyone here is liking them.As soon as I can afford it I'm getting two 15" Tempests. They should stomp all over my 4 MTX 12"s easily. Can't wait.Have you seen anything about them at all over there?

Never heard of them but they sound interesting. I'm sure some people could make a dodgy pun out of the name though

To save cluttering up this thread, I've added a new thread with the info site on and added your link.
