What set-up do you already have? If it's just the standard fit, I'd get a head unit that can play CD-Rs with MP3 on it. Kenwood or Blaupunkt leap to mind as ones that users on here have had good experiences with.

If you're already running an after market setup, I'd look at the Denison DMP3 from ihavetohave.it

Scoobyboy

In a couple of weeks we can plug&play the Dension DMP3 to any Sony head unit. Installation is basically the Unilink changer cable and keypresses from the head unit will control the DMP3.

As well as Sony, we'll have support for Alpine MBUS (i.e. TDM/CDM head units) and Blaupunkt.

If you fancy sexy, check out the Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB or Travelpilot single-DIN satnav and think through one of these controlling the DMP3. We'll be able to do good bundle pricing on any of these head units with a DMP3.

Cheers

Lee.

only a fraction over your budget but the sony Sony MEX-5DI is a tasty looking beast.
single slot cd reads mp3/cdr etc, 32,000 Colour TFT Display, and has a sony memory stick slot too. probably also able to control your existing cd changer.sony also do a 6 cd changer that decodes mp3s (CDX-T70MX )

Have a look at the alpine 7998 - you can get that for under 550 and should fit the bill, although your cd changer won't work with it. But then agian you can easily convert your existing cd collection onto mp3 and listen to it that way.
