Cheep sound deadening ??
#1
where is the best place to go for a good deal on some sound deadening? I saw a while the roadkill group buy but missed out on it and the Dynamat and brown bread I have seen in car audio shops just seams extortionate for a decent amount (looking to do all the doors metal and a bit on the inside trim and the boot)
all advice appreciated

the g man is right - roofing felt (bitumen) is the same stuff that is a component of most sound deadening that I know of.
For a good, cheap supplier, I've bought barrier mat of "Steve the Sound Man" on this board, who runs noisekiller accoustics. Very easy to work with, and good value for money.
(no association as you'd expect of your moderator, but in my experience this stuff gives excellent VFM)

hi-band flashing tape from B&Q is great stuff
10metre roll in various widths. i used 5 of 10m x 10cm rolls (ie 5000cm x 10cm) rolls to do all my old nova.
very good for sound deadening and only cost about £6 per roll. nice and sticky if done on a warm day no need to heat it up, use a roller to press it down well (as u would any material).
yes the bitumen did smell a bit for a day or two but better than spending a couple of hundred on dynamat.

If you choose to go the bitumen route I suggest you seal it, in some way. On a hot day it will begin to smell!!! You could use spray on plastic underseal(not the aerosol version it's too thin). This will also act as sound deadening similar to Rockford Fosgate noise killer. Alot of the pros use strips of MDF bonded to the panels with mastic etc, and sprayed with noise killer or plastic underseal.
Hope this help's.

I used the flashing tape in my festa quite a bit, and the only trouble is that it tends to slide down the doors and smell when it gets hot.
Hence the recommendation to use barrier mat, which is IMHO the best value for money I've found so far

It's steve the sound man - hang on, will dig it out...
Right, he's got a website now: http://www.noisekiller.co.uk
I'll persuade him to sign up for Scoobyshop, too, if I can
No association with Steve, just bought from stuff that is good VFM

Cheers Nick, ordered enough for boot space, excellent price.
Should be here ready for me to fit the weekend, I'll let you know what I think.
Nice friendly service too and no pressure for a sale.
Cheers

We'll after the concerns about the Bitumen stuff I decided to go with the Barrier mat cost £40 a sheet (2mx1.2m) + £6 postage for up to 2 sheets (this is a scoobynet price) I recived it Friday 2 days after ordering as promised and looks like good stuff except the foil on the fromt appears to peel off rather easly but will reserve final judgement until it is fitted to the car

used to do serious spl with a pug 306 i used wickes aluminium roof flushing for that and it worked really well and is cheap as too. If youre really concerned about weight though something like dynamat extreme is probably your best bet.

Nick, Kit contained
1x circular(for spare wheel)
2x sculpted (for wheel arches)
12x rectanglar(for the rest of spare wheel and sidewalls)
1x foam matt ( covers whole boot floor under original matt)
I did manage to slide 3 of the smaller pieces up under the parcel shelf between the metal and card stuff, a bit of a pain tho, sliding the pieces across when they are sticking to everything.
Oh and you certainly notice the foil covering coming unstuck when doing this.
Cheers

Just received email from Steve at Noisekiller due to a faulty batch of pads where the foil peels off, he has offered to replace all the pads at no cost to myself.
This guy is top, great customer service and satisfaction I'd definately recommend this company to anyone who needs some sound deadening.
Thanks,
Daz

Steve is a top guy, he fitted my boot kit on Thursday in exchange for him taking some pics of it so they can go on his web site.
