why does everybody insist on buying these speakers... does everybody just think that these are the best for an impreza... at the end of the day you should get one of your cds and then go to some shops and listen to what you like.... theres more than one type of 6.5" speaker available...

Some people dont like rockford... I do... hence having a pretty much rockford system.... but I would recommend that people try DLS, Focal, Rockford, CD Technologies, Polk Audio... There is more than just infinity's... those that have their infinitys this isnt a dig... just think people should listen to others...

But I guarantee my Rockford Power Series 6.5" Mids sound better!

David

Good point, there is a large Halfords over Lakeside which is near me. I'll take a drive over there after work.

Thanks

Halfords tend to be a bit pricey though. I'd give em a ring first. I think mcs will arrange a Saturday delivery so if you rang them tomorrow..........

Good luck

Halfords prices are RRP.

Obviously when you mail order you don't find yourself facing an overweight Audio specialist smiling back at you who costs Halfords vast amounts of money each month. Only joking about the money.

ps. The store at which I work has them in stock but you'll have to pay me to get them out the lock-up for you.....lol

Cool

Thanks guys,

But i've decided not to be so impatient and to order the items I really want rather than getting something else just because I want to get it done this weekend.

So,

Audio G, I was going to order a set of the Infinity 605cs and an Alpine CDA-7873R head unit from MCS-Direct on Monday. If you can match their price and can get it to me for next week i'll be more than happy to put my business your way.

Thanks
Gareth.

Audio G, do you work at a shop or is it just mail order only? I'd prefer to go to a shop....

I wasn't knocking Halfords audio g man, they've been quite useful in the past When I bought my head unit though they wanted £599 for it and I found several places on the web (mcs, caraudiodirect etc) that were selling it for around the £400 mark. Faced with those differences the choice was easy......

I tend to find they're more useful for the smaller things like connectors, ripspeed tax disc holders (look good in the sti by the way), etc.....

Halfords £120. MCS £90. I went for MSC...BUT...I've been waiting for more than two weeks..they have been out of stock - they have told me they will be with me on Monday. They have been helpful with keeping me up to date with the situation, and haven't charged my card yet either. Seem like a good outfit

Gareth,

I work for one of the Surrey branches of Halfords.

Iain,

No offence taken, I didn't take your coments as a dig at said company. If the truth be known, I've put a few of my hard earned pennys in MCS'S direction.
Nothing wrong in searching for those bargins.

They did not arrive today. MCS have phoned me twice and advised two different delivery dates now (which is good service - at least they were keeping me informed!), BUT have not kept either, so I have cancelled my order. Seems strange if other people are being told they are in stock?

Red face

Robs,

I ordered mine from there today and when I phoned back in the afternoon to order a headunit, the guy said that the speakers had already been dispatched. I'll let you know if they turn up......

Seems a bit strange though...

'Lost in the post'!!?? I've cancelled by e-mail (no one on the phone at this time of night), so that means they'll probably turn up in the morning! Maybe I'll hold off ordering from someone else tonight!!

Robs

If you're not happy, don't open them and send them back quoting the Distance Selling Regulations of 2000 or thereabouts.

Basically, you have a 7 day cooling off period for anything bought mail order. This applies to anything - computer goods, you name it...

Nick.

David,

I totally agree with you about the listening to them first, problem is, I just couldn't find anywhere around me that had anything other than the regular makes which are too deep for the Impreza door. Basically I didn't want to experiment in trying to get them to fit and rather go for someone else’s suggestions.
I'm also into home hifi and I regard the Infinity speakers as good quality and suit my listening standards (although that doesn't mean the car speaker are the same!!)

Robs, hope you got yours today, as mine just turned up...

Cheers
Gareth.

I found most 6.5" speakers will fit.. with one exception... the ones I allready have... bigger magenets than some subs!

It all depends on the spacer you use as there is loads of room behind the trim.. (allowing for cone excursion (sp))

Unhappy

The Pro Plus ones I brought which were 68mm deep wouldn't fit my MY02 Sti. Too small a spacer and the magnet hit the window and too larger one and the cone hit the door trim. That's why I opted for the smaller 605's with a mounting depth of 53mm and a 12mm spacer. Haven't tried them yet, but everyone else has managed to fit them ok, so i'm hopeing.

Typical..They turned up this morning!! Now I've got them Chiark, there's no way I'm sending them back!! (I guess my order is reinstated! Thanks for the advice though!).
The reason I chose these is
a) most people on here seem to say they sound pretty good, and are definately a massive improvement over the standard fit, &
b) everyone says they will fit straight in without having to cut the door to bits (been down that route before..).
I am not after sonic nirvana - just an improvement in quality (the next challenge will be to get rid of all the rattles in the doors..), and I don't think listening to car speakers in a showroom would give a fair impression of what they will sound like at 70mph, so I wouldn't spend the time auditioning...
Shall let you know what I think once they're in...but it's pissing down right now, so it won't be tonight...
