would NOT use a 5w oil in a classic IMO...............

if its a std car and std type use then 10w40 is what your after, if its more aggressive/track use or modified then the 10w50 would be better

the std competition fully ester based synthetic CFS is very good if you want the ultimate then the newer CFS NT range is the dogs..........

Hi

I tend to agree with Alyn on this, a 10w-40 is often the safe option for a classic as it helps it to keep quiet on cold starts. If it's heavily modified or used on track a lot, a 10w-50 is a better option. Millers CFS and CFS Nanodrive are some of the best oils on the market, but Gulf Competition, Fuchs Pro S, Red Line and Motul 300V are in the same league.

There are quite a few classics that use a 5w-40 when cold and if they are fine with it, then there is no point in changing to a 10w-40.

Cheers

Tim

I use Fuchs 5/40 fully synthetic from Opie in my lightly modded classic without any problems.

99% road use with maybe a sprint course type track day once or twice a year.

Well just done a rebuild
been told to use running in oil for 1st 500
then 10w40 for second 500
then put 10w50 in
thats by scooby clinic
car has some mods
some uprated parts internal but pretty much standard
and having mapped and I will be happy
so you all recommend a good 10w40

Use the motul 300v just because it smells good enough to drink :-)

A 10w-40 is the standard choice if it's not heavily modified, just use a good quality one. As it's been rebuilt, everything should be nice and tight, so a 5w-40 could be the best option to keep it in the best condition.

Cheers

millers nanodrive 10w40 would be perfect.

Ive just done a change on my newage with 5w40 nanodrive and I swear my engine revs a little faster...might be the placebo effect but Im happy

Oh...and if you dont buy it from Opie...you are on glue

and again do NOT use a 5w in a classic in general terms..................

if you have modded parts and rebuilt then why not simply take the "good" advice of SC and use a 10w50 when its all run in
