Default Lambda unplugged, no idea if mapped with it plugged in or not?

Hi guys

While removing my headlight this morning, I decided to look at tidying up the bunch of loose cables around the back of the lump/gearbox, hoping that as well as cleaning them, that it would settle down my intermittent DCCD problem.

Anyhoo, I noticed that the Lambda sensor was unplugged and that the connector had actually been touching the DECAT downpipe and it has melted nicely! I might just have enough to make it fit back in to the socket but...

This is my question, it is a total unknown as to whether or not the car was mapped with the lambda plugged in or unplugged, this is on an Alcatek ECU.

I have no idea what the combination of a lambda on a decat DP with Alcatek does but I am loathed to plug the Lambda back in if it was mapped with it unplugged?

What if the lambda was plugged in for mapping but wasn't locked in place and has fallen out since?

Any input gratefully received as I am rusty as hell with stuff like this.

Cheers,

Nick.

So do you just have a hole in your exhaust at the moment?

Was going to say that will be blowing nicely, if there's a bung in your de cat id say leave it out.... Or go and get the car plugged in and you'll know for sure

Lol, the Lambda is connected in to the DP, no bung used. When you say get the car plugged in and you will know for sure, do you mean get the lambda plugged in and then I will know? If you are saying get the car plugged in via the ECU for checking, the tuner doesn't have the interface for the Alcatek that I am aware of and I would be loathed to use all that time and petrol again going there if possible. How will I know, will the car idle noticeably different etc?

I have just spent a load of money on various fixes so I am a little loathed to just plug it in for the hell of it if it was mapped out.

Yes I do, I am going to spam an email to them in due course but this car has been a pain so I wanted general, absolutely unbiased opinions about on this too.

I've just noticed your sig.

I'm sure JGM will happily look at any logs/files he has from mapping it and be able to help?

Personally, if it's not caused any ill effect running wise I would just leave it out for now until you can clarify by plugging it back in once the car has a laptop plugged into it.

Thanks guys. The car will be sitting on the drive for at least the next 7-10 days unused anyway so at least there is no rush figuring it out .

+1 when mine failed it threw up a cel light.

im not 100% sure on this but i think the car only uses the lambda for fueling off boost.

when the car hits boost the fueling is done by the map.

mine ran fine on boost and rich on idle and off boost with a failed lambda, although it was the uppipe one that failed in mine.

of that i have no idea i was running stock ecu with an open source map from race dynamix.

although its possible to disable warning lights from the ecu on a laptop when mapping

From what I understand, the lambda in the manifold (just before the up pipe) does the A/F ratio, and the one in the downpipe (at the end or in the centre section depending on the car) does 02 and a comparison with the front one? I believe below 3krpm and off boost that between them they do the fueling. I could be way off there though...

However, some JDM cars have the sensor at the top of the downpipe so I'm not sure if this is different for you Mr Footlong? I know on the stock ECU you can map out the CEL light coming on from the 02 sensor after being decatted. Aftermarket ECU however... I'm not sure.

Dan, I'm presuming the one on your car was just before the up pipe in the manifold?

yes it was the one accessed via the wheel arch liner hatch in the drivers wheel arch.

the cel came on but the car ran fine on boost but rich and used a lot of fuel of boost.
