Default P0365 - Camshaft Position Sensor

Hi Scoobynet,

I have a 2003 Blobeye STi Type UK and I am getting the subject error code. I've read on this forum that there are two of these sensors... I've found two websites supplying these sensors, each with a different Subaru manufacturers code - they are:

22056AA091 - http://www.camskill.co.uk/m10b0s2691...B_STi_02_to_06

22056AA062 - http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/part...en=&searchKey=

How do I know which one I need?

Many thanks.

I had this code come up on my 05 Jdm Sti last year. I changed the sensor and no difference. It turned out to be that the multi wiring plug above the drivers side cylinder head close to the turbo was full of water.Just in desperation I unplugged it and water came out. A spray of WD40 and all was well. Steve.

Check the positioning of the sensor, Has an 05 sti with similar issues and it turned out to be the sensor not reading the pickup on the cam pulley correctly

I'm getting a further two error codes today: P0420 + P0420 P - are these related to P0365?

P0420 is cat below threshold.

Could be down to incorrect readings from the cam sensor fault

On the Camskill website (link above) why does it say two required, one per bank? I thought there were only two? One on the drivers side and one near the oil filler cap.

its usually the one under the oil filler that triggers the fault code

Which of the two sensors in the links above are for the sensor located underneath the oil filler cap?

Thanks, Rob.

Downloaded a service manual, albeit for a 2004 model (anyone know where to get 2003?), and neither sensor are located near the oil filler cap. That one is actually the TGV...?

I'm really confused right now.

Don't know if this helps anyone else but I had this sensor changed (oil filler side) and I still have the fault so it's the one on the other side.

At the rear of the driver side cylinder head where the camshaft sensor is, its on a bracket, just follow the wires up and you,ll find a couple of multiplugs. Unplug them and give a spray of WD40. There is a sensor on the back of the passenger side head aswell as the one at the front of the engine. Steve.

[QUOTE=ndclarke;11539546]Thanks. I found the sensor, I then followed it and found 2 multi connectors. A light grey and a dark grey one. I hope these are the ones. I have sprayed them and give it a drive tonight. See how it goes! Thanks again! 👍

Hi Guys,

Got the code coming up again now. More often, tried the WD40 trick but it hasn't worked. Was worth a try.

Best place to get a replacement sensor? Any fitment tips?

Thanks

Bumping and old thread here and sort of going back to the op.

Which sensor is it that causes the error code p0365??

I have the code and replaced the sensor under the filler cap but still have the code coming up. After re-reading this thread, I take it I have replaced a sensor not relevant to the code.

How many of these cam sensors are there on a 53 plate sti? 2 or 3? and where are they located?

Any help appreciated and thanks in advance

Another bump for this topic;
2004 WRX STi
Not had the car long, about a month, driven about 400 miles
all good. then the dreaded check engine light comes on.
Car still running perfect, exactly the same as before the light came on.
Checked the code P0365
Cleared it, couple of days later comes on again.
Car still running fine.
Bit confused as to bank 1/2 , so I ordered two camshaft sensors
Changed the easy one first, on the passenger side (near to batter / filler cap)
Reset code, car rand fine for 2 days, before the check engine light comes on.
Now, I know there is another camshaft sensor, but where is it located ?!
had a good ferret around but couldn't see a likely candidate.

Also, what's the likelihood of it being connectors / wiring ?
Car has full service history, and has just nudged over 100K
Thanks !

Depends upon orientation and always when looking forward

Bank 1 - Front or RH
Bank 2- Rear or LH

P0365 - refers to Bank1 (RH side), so the AVCS position sensor at the rear of the RH cylinder head Part number 22056AA091

Item 6 (at the top left of this diagram for Bank1 and near the middle right for Bank2))

The one you changed is for the cam wheel position (item 9 above) Part number 22056AA063

thanks for that !

So, looking forward from the drivers seat (RHD), part no. 6 will be on my right side, right at the top back of the engine - correct?

BTW , the car runs just the same with or without the EML

aaandd - its a real bugger to get to !
just spent 30 mins trying to get it out - with not much success !
Looks like I'll need to strip out a fair bit of ancillary bits to get to it. Any tips / suggestions ?
Love the way the retaining bolt is canted away from the side of the block, making it even more difficult to get the sensor out.
Also , the sensor looks different to the one I bought - need to get it out to check.

Thanks for the picture - that is very clear.
It also confirms that the part I thought I was fitting (part 9 in your first pic) was totally wrong !

BTW - where can I get hold of the tech manuals for the car ?
I had them about 4 years ago, when the Mrs Had a WRX STi;
can't locate them now

Sorry to bump this again but I just got the P0365 (Camshaft Position Sensor B Circuit Bank 1) code along with the P0171 (System too lean Bank 1) code for my 2002 WRX with a JDM EJ205 with AVCS. Based on the descriptions, I'm assuming the two issues are related but if not, feel free to correct me haha.

Just confirming, would swapping out my existing Camshaft Position Sensor in Bank 1 with a replacement sensor (Part Number: 22056AA091)solve the issue? Just wanted to check since the part is $150 before tax at my local subaru dealer and I'm having a bit of trouble finding a replacement part through my usual aftermarket suppliers.

Thanks in advance!!!
