Default Front Oxygen Sensor Fault Code

Evening guys,

The CEL came on tonight and when I checked the fault code it came up P1131 - Front oxygen sensor circuit malfunction (short circuit).

I reset the ECU and it hasn't come back on. Couple of questions, could the sensor actually short circuit or is it likely to be a wiring problem, it's dark and I'm away from home on a course so I have no tools to get under the car.

Are the front and rear O2 sensors the same, and do they both do anything or will one working O2 sensor and the MAF effectively regulate the mixture, if so I am right in understanding that the front O2 sensor is the important one?

Anyone have any idea how much a new sensor will cost, I've seen one on Ebay for £350 , but I thought they where about half that from subaru.

What's the worst can happen if I continue to drive it sensibly, like I say I'm not at home and only have the weekends which I'll be spending commuting.

Cheers

Jon
