What is this part?






it is located on the passenger side behind the dash on my STI but on the WRX it is mounted behind the speedo

sorry to sound dumb but is that just the standard alarm that comes on the car? does the car has a transponder unit? that goes with the ECU and the piece around the ignition barrel and the head of the key?

It's the standard Alarm Subaru Uk fitted to all their cars from about 2001, possibly the classics too, not sure.

As everyone has said, its the alarm box. You need security screw bits to open it.

The keys are coded to the ECU on your year car, so not sure if it would have a separate transponder unit in the same area.

yeah so when i put my engine in another shell ill need to swap my ecu and the key too then for it to run

Yes, or mappers can re-code I've heard.
