Ignition Barrel woes
Hi guys,
I'm new here, and have arrived seeking your wisdom and humble advice.
Little background on me and my "vehicle"
I've got a 1980 VW T25 panel van that i'm currently fitting a Impreza 2000 turbo engine & mating it to a VeeDubs box
Now before you all run off screaming blasphemy, gimme a minute
I bought a complete V reg uk turbo, with a dead gearbox, stripped the car, and carefully labelled nearly everything as i undid the wiring loom etc.
Today while working on my van and trying to route the wiring loom around the engine bay of its new home, i stupidly asked my son to remove the ignition barrel from the steering column, explaining how careful he should be.
Obviously, ive not explained the word carefully enough to my son, because he decided to remove the steering lock with the aid of the 2lb lump hammer and appears to have ben the barrel sligtly. He said he thought i wanted the steering column and not the barrel
Now the good news is the black plastic ring that circles the barrel is ok (Where it says i have a wire attached on the pic), but the key will no longer rotate the barrel, but it does move to position one, but then stops and will go no further.
Can i buy another barrel, complete with matching key, swap the lot over and just plug and play?, or as i'm hoping, can i just remove the electronics from the barrel, tape my old key to the remains, and just wire the ignition switch to the vee dubs ignition barrel?
Also what is the purpose of the white block on the underside of the barrel, that has only two wires? (where it says can i remove this)

i will search for a guide i did to remove the tumblers which you can do to match up a new barrel, but on the later barrels im not sure if you can remove the internals

Thanks for the reply, i actually found that thread that while trawling search engines, which brought me here, i even actually took the original image to make my drawing
looking at barrels for sale on the web, might looks more like a buyeye barrel set up than the classic one? being a 2000 uk model, did the have a change over period where stuff is like this normally
