Default Turbo Question

I've bought a TD05 16G for my '03 WRX.

The turbo is as new but its second hand. I'm 99.9% sure its the same turbo as this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMP...item51a3658192

The question relates to the coolant lines, the way the turbo fits, the flanges, the oil connections and the top coolant line look fine.

The lower coolant line however isn't there. On other TD05's I've seen the entry and return for the coolant are both on the same side of the turbo. On this turbo the entry is where it should be, but the exit is the other side and both lower outlets have plugs fitted which means that the lower hose is the wrong side of the turbo if that makes any sense.

Has anyone else used this turbo, if so how did you get around the coolant line issue?

Also I didn't realise this was a "Big 16G", I'm only after around 330 Bhp, will this be too laggy?

Thanks in advance,

Scott

I would have suggested a vf34/35 turbo for those needs.

This was a good price and is sat on my lap now and is nearly new.

Just wondered if anyone else had one and what they did about the coolant line.

Not too sure on the coolant lines but I've got a TD05-16G on my WRX and it's on full boost by 3000rpm, so there's no need to worry about lag! Got it mapped to peak at 1.3bar and trail off to 1.1 higher up the revs, makes a reliable 320bhp though it could be pushed further I'm sure (I just don't want to blow up my gearbox).

Neither do I!

If this is a Big 16G it flows more than a normal 16G

What supporting mods would you need for this to hit 350ish mark? and roughly how much should it all cost, installed?

I have a bog-standard WRX and I'm looking for the same kind of power..

Hmm, now I know a few people have bought from this seller before, including myself.

But as a general rule per say.

I thought buying cheapy eBay turbos was a no no

I may need a new one myself, and mine is in a fairly high state of tune. AND I've seen this before.

But have heard far to many cheap Japanese copy's out there exploding an failing?

I think I can get away with flipping the coolant hard pipe over so it exits in roughly the correct place.

At 320bhp I'm running:
a 2.5" fully decat (including up pipe, down pipe etcetc)
HKS panel filter
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
STi pink 552CC injectors
TD05-16G turbo
Remap by Andy Carr

I'm assuming your WRX is an 01-05 model, in which case the issue with the magical 350bhp figure is that the 5 speed boxes will go bang at that power, maybe not immediately, but it will at some point. AFAIK the only remedies are a PPG 5 speed or a transmission swap for an STi 6 speed (neither of these are cheap).

So far I have the turbo and the fuel pump.

Just need injectors, up-pipe, spark plugs and 3 port boost solenoid. Then map it.

Nice one for the info pal. I would be more than happy with 320bhp. How does your box cope with that power?
