turbo spool - standard 06 wrx sti
I assume its normal to hear the turbo spool up from within the cabin when accelerating hard and a slight 'psssst' when the changing gear on a standard sti?
My last car was a standard Astra VXR and you didn't really hear much of the turbo.

true!
Mine went after 5k.
Once they were done the noise was still there.
5k later I'm sitting with a melted/cracked piston.

The head gaskets are supposed to leak tubbs. acts like a pressure relif valve so the pistons don't crack

With the astra vxr it was gearbox paranoia as they were known to be a problem.

Well you will not have to worry about the gearbox on these. The 6 speed box is very strong
