Meths
Hello,
I have an 03 sti and it has a 20% meth map on it which I havn't used yet.
I'm just a little confused of how to calculate how much to put in. I understand that I need to initially put it in 12 litres of meths and then fill up the rest with v power but its working out after that when I need to fill up again.
I ran the car today till the light came on and went to fill it up, It took 50 litres to fill up so when the light comes on there is 10 litres in reserve so that would mean each quarter on the gauge would mean 12.5 litres or am I wrong?
So if I had half a tank left on the gauge (25 litres) would it be a matter of just adding 5 litres of meths then 20 litres of v power taking into account the 10 litres in reserve has already been mixed when I put the 12 litres of meths to get the correct mix in the first place?
Sorry if i'm totally wrong here and making myself look a tool as i'm sure i'm making this look complicated when it probably isn't I just don't want to get it wrong if I start using meths?
Cheers,
James

A while back I asked the same and got a answer and the maths were not that simple as for a 20% mix on 60 litres of fuel is 12 litres. But by putting in 12 litres of Meths you are only mixing it with 48 litres of fuel which is a 25% mix. So you actually need to add 10 litres to 50 litres of fuel for a 20% mix. Then you have the issue of when you top up the tank how much meths do you add??

It's important to continue what ratio the car was mapped on but the above is 20%.

I understand that if I fill up when the light is on as there's 10 litres in reserve I just want to make sure I'm right in saying that each quarter on the gauge is 12.5 litres so if I had half a tank left there is room for 25 litres so I would add 5 litres meths and 20 litres v power.
If there was a quarter left and I needed to fill up there would be room for 37.5 litres so I would add 7.5 litres of meths and 30 litres v power as 20% of 37.5 is 7.5 but then that doesn't add up to a full tank if you include the 10 litre reserve .
Am I being a **** here and working it out all wrong

Hi James
As above 12L methanol and 48L of fuel is correct ratio or per every 4L V-power(T99) 1L methanol.
Speak to TimH which can source to you Flexi fuel sensor EOI,which is good to have and worth have look on this thread over 22b

That looks a good thing to have Jura, takes the worry out of having the exact ratio.
Something else ill have to save for!
I take it the syvecs senses the mixture and adjusts the map accordingly and is it clever enough to change the map from say a 10% mix to a 20% mix?

What would be the result of running a meth mix like above on a standard car / map ? Would it be potentially dangerous , or beneficial but not to the same extent as a meth specific map ?

You will need have car mapped for Methanol, because you will risk alot with running methanol
Usual gain on meth running is smoother running, with gain like on bhp and torque figures
We are gained 38bhp on 20% methanol(from 452bhp to the 490bhp),this usually depends on turbo what you will be running etc
If its New age,,you can have two multiple maps on yours OEM ECU,but if you have classic you will need aftermarket ECU which will allow you to do so
Speak with yours mapper first and after that you can decide if its worth
