Default Help needed knock/rattle

Hi all any help would be good

Hi iv got an uk turbo 2000 99 reg when I start up on cold I get a knock/rattle noise coming from the front it's getting a timing belt kit and water pump done on Thursday hoping it gets rid of my issue but any ideas would help oh and the noise gose away when warm also it runs fine as well even when cold it's only on idle it makes noise

Could be piston slap, mines a bit noisy on start up. Goes when warm and has been like it for the 2 years I've had it.

Well I did think it could be a slap only thing that put me off that was even when cold noise is there on idle but not if you rev it when cold but if you just blip the revs say 1-1500 you still here it iv done the screw drive test and it sounds like its coming from under the altnater but not sure what's under there

Personally I wouldn't use the car till you know what it is because if it is a big going the crank might be salvageable at minute

Directly underneath the alternator lives the crankshaft mate
As said get it looked at mate

And so does the timing belt tensioner!
A revised tensioner was introduced as some did rattle against the steel insert in the block. (I remember changing mine) More noticable at low revs where the firing pulses are more prominent.

Someone did say to me that's a tensioner so maybe it's booked in Thursday so will see what happens and ill post back info thanks for the help folks

Well folks it was the tensioner timing belt and all that is done and its running mint thanks for the help cheers
