Awhile ago on e-bay I saw a metal can for catching sump oil that also had a large funnel & filter (to catch the drain plug) and then you just clip the lid closed and take it down the the council recyc.
Can't find one now that I need one
Any ideas?

Halfords have several (well they did a while back) the whole side of the container was essentially a funnel with a whole in the side rather than on the top.
I had a plastic one which did the job well. I think they have a fancy pants version of this on the website.

Thanks for that Robyn.
I've see that one but the whole side gets covered in oil so its not so nice to put in the boot.
Anybody else?

Why pour it down the drain? Get it burning and you get yourself a right fire. Loads of black dense smoke to wind your neighbours up. At least in the burnt form, it does less environmental damage.

Beats running round to the neighbours house screaming
"FIRE!! FIRE!!"
You could always position the car over the nearest drain so that the sump bolt is right over it then just undo the bolt and let it pour freely.

Damn, I never thought of that.
If I dig a hole in my garden, tip the oil in then fill the hole backup, I can then get Esso or Shell to come around and give them first refusal on buying my house. It will be worth millions with an oil well in the back garden.
Then again, I could just tip it down the drain like everyone else does.

LOL @ Norm
Why not break one of the gaskets on the engine so as to allow the oil to burn with the petrol and drive round for about 50 miles with grey smoke coming out of your exhaust. When the engine starts to sound like it's knackered replace the gasket and top her up with fresh oil.
Sorted.

I always borrow the sieve from the kitchen and drain the oil though that into the drain. Never lost a sump bolt yet. Just need to sneak it back into the kitchen before anyone notices. One bonus is its never rusted!
