Default will a 1999 sti gear box fit a 1998 uk turbo classic ?

Hi I have just bought a classic for a few £££ as spares or repairs and while driving it home noticed the box crunches going into 3rd and 4th not under hard acceleration so my guess is syncromesh foooked (prob spelt wrong) so i was wondering as it is my new project (and I am planning on getting around 350 + bhp)

would a 1999 sti gear box fit my98 uk classic with minimal fuss (bolt off bolt on)

also where would be the best place to start looking for a pressure leak on boost
the car shoots off like a rocket in 1st 2nd eases off in 3rd big hiss 4th 5th i can here turbo whistle but also a massive hiss not a lot of power my mate in his 2.5 v6 1999 vectra can keep up with me

cheers jim

You will need the matching rear diff with the gearbox,
Best to take it to a impreza specialist before it ****s its self

the box for sale is on its own ....no diff with it. how hard do you reckon it would be to find a matching diff.... i want to do the work myself so i have the satisfaction of knowing I have fixed it ....my project sort of thing ....I have built a wagon up before from the scrap heap (see my garage pics ) bought it for £100 spent £700 on parts 12 month tinkering on it about 30 hours labour got her through the MOT added 10k driving her and then sold for £1550

Yes the v5/v6 box probably your best bet or got for a newer gearbox and rear diff off a newer shape impreza even better if you 6 speed box but that's a 2k minimum
