Best advice you'll get, this one has been done to death on many forums the world over, but I'll add my two pence worth.
A lot depends on your budget, the usage of the car (all weather, track etc) and the characteristics you're after (e.g. wear rate, feedback, noise, etc).
The new tyre ratings system in many ways should make your choice far easier than it's been historically. Personally, in the last 8 years of scoob ownership I've run Goodyears, Dunlops, Vredesteins and am currently on Hankooks.
When I finish them I'm going back to Vredestein (Ultrac Sessantas) as, in my opinion, they offer the best value for money in terms of progressive grip, wear and dry / wet weather performance, whilst being priced less than some of the worse performing and wearing tyres like Eagle F1's.
I've never chanced spending the money on Toyos having read too many reviews saying that whilst they were good when new, they tended to become very skittish and unpredictable when worn.
If it's track only R888's are the tyre for you or for cheaper tyres, Yoko Parada Spec 2's.
Also if you like corners then make sure you pump them up a bit - I find 36psi at the front works well.
Sorry, also the spelling / grammar police in me has to point out to the OP - "know" not "no" and "what" not "wot"

I agree with MrNoisy, I have a 2005 Pro-Drive Impreza and this is my third Impreza, so I've tried all sorts of tyres. I'm currently running Vredestein Sessantas, 215/40 and they are the best performing tyre I've had. They run at higher pressures (36/34) and have hard walls, so they don't roll. Wet grip is phenomenal and they last well. Only slight gripe is that they need frequent topping-up with air. They let you know if they are under pressure by heavy steering and tram-lining.
My previous tyres were Vredestein Ultrac Cento 215/45 and were not so affected by pressure loss or tram-lining. Very long lasting, grippy, quieter, softer than the Sessantas.

As above guys suggested Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta are great tyres and they don't cost so much,we run them on our wagon at 490bhp and on the track they're too OK,we run them too on our wagon at 555.5bhp without the issue,in wet they have great grip and in dry are perfect tyres

Sorry to hijack your thread but I'm also looking at getting some summer tires and had kind of made my mind up on Goodyear Eagle F1's but after reading this thread I'm wondering whether to go for the Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta on my 05 STi. Would you say these are better than the F1 as I can see their cheaper?

Personally I prefer Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta,we run them on wagon and we are now running them on my brother Civic Type R
Goodyear F1's we have previously on our wagon, when we are bought the wagon and we are just don't like them, but this really depends on people taste, everyone is different and if everyone is same, world will be very boring

I've been too dubious when we are bought Vredstein first time, but trust me after running them,we are loving them and using them on all our cars,if its possible

As Jura said vredstein ultrac sessenta is the perfect tyre for are liquid summers over here as they are top draw in the wet and can handle dry terra firma as well when it's dry it's the tyres my wife is getting on here car now but trying to find the cheapest possible stockist.SJ.
People do rave about Sessantas, but I have never bought them, because the tread pattern look to have more air than rubber in it. So I can't really comment. They are reasonably priced and I wouldn't mind having a go with them on someones elses car, it's just that I hate getting stuck with a set of tyres that I don't get on with. Life's too short.
In 10 years of Subaru ownership, I have tried Brigestone RE050, RE070, Toyo Proxis, Michelin PS2, Goodyear F1 Assym 1 and 2s and Yokohama AD08s.
My preferred tyre of these are the Yoko AD08, which are sublime in the dry, do not fall to pieces on the track (RE070s were good in this department as well), are good in the wet.
I am not too sure what the wear is like, as I track about six times a year. They are about half way worn now and I have done 7K and three dry track days on them, so can't be too bad I think.
They are not a budget tyre howeverer - but obviously you will need to account for how many miles you do in a year, rather than just going on the original outlay - what ever tyres you decide to go for.

Ive been a godyear eagle f1 fan (road use only) but will be going for a set of vredestein sessanta tomorrow. I'm keen to see how they compare against the goodyears after reading so many positive comments on here about them.
TR1's at £100 a corner delivered (plus a few beer tokens for your local tyre fitter?
