Default 2001 wrx Subframe rotten

Hi all

I got 2001 wrx uk300 with a from rotten Subframe. Would it be best to replace with another stock Subframe or some kind of a brace. I've heard some people run without one?

Is it a easy job to replace or remove?

Cheers all

Are they for purely safety feature?.... What is bolted to it. Is it safe without the U style Subframe?

The engine bolts into the engine cradle, the cradle bolts to the front subframe ...... That's how it is on the blob anyway and they have the same running tea so would imagine its the same

It's looks like been repaired Before. I've noticed a few rust holes appearing. So looking in May time to either replace or upgrade or ditch it. Thinking of all angles...

Had it off for a last few months anyway. Thought there no point putting it on if I got to work on the subframe

A friend of mine sed don't remove it completely as there thinks like suspension bolted to it and other main things. What is actually bolted to it? Also how much work to removed it and replace with a mint Subframe. Few hours or a days work.

Takes about half an hour to get off, few of the bolts were tougher than others.

Is fine to take it off, mines been off for 6 months and it hasn't effected anything.

Any main things bolted to it?. The thing is removing. I don't want to leave other parts loose like suspension etc

If you do decide to remove it, check with your insurance first, as I believe it's meant to be there primarily as a crash protection feature to help stop the engine ending up in your lap (which is daft if it's made of rust, I know), but they might class it in the same way as removing your ABS or an airbag.

As far as I'm aware, there's nothing bolted to it that will affect your suspension, just the plastic undertray.
