Default Belt guard

Just been out to change the PAS belt, first job on the new car and it didn't quite go to plan! Basically the bolts that hold the belt guard on are goosed - one so rusty it snapped and the other was cross threaded and now I've undone it, it won't go back on! I'm assuming its just there to stop things falling in to the belts so if I leave it off it won't do any harm?

makes sense - if I can't get it bolted up properly I'll temporarily hold it in place with cable ties, probably better than leaving it off.
