Default 1999 WRX Bottom possibly gone HELP !!

Hi Everyone,
I own a 1999 wagon it recently 7000 miles ago had a top end re-build with stage 2 injectors, new turbo and apex hand controller.
Im new to Subaru but i loved it while it lasted.
Not the fastest scooby. I was doing 140mph for 10 miles and the check engine light came on flashing. i slowed up clutched it and it stalled. Rolled up the slip road and it restarted with alot of tapping.
Start up ticks over (just) it wants to stall.
Ive taken it to a garage and there going to charge £30 a hour to take the engine out. Starting tomorrow. I live in Kent and the Car is in Sittingbourne waiting to be stripped.
Ive watched the you tube videos of bottom ends failing and it sounds the same.
Ive spoke to Scooby Tech in Mersyside and he recomended i go down the route of buying a complete bottom end from a 7 or 8..... not sure what this means.
Ive had the worst luck with engines over the last 3 years. I just want it to be reliable and take a bit of a beating from time to time.
Any advice where i should get parts from and if this is the right place to be doing the work ?
Im on a budjet i dont earn alot so cant be spending £3000+ kind of money.
would like it done for under £2000.
A friend is saying get forged worsner pistons. ....

be prepared for an ear bashing matey starting with me........140mph for 10 miles is not clever at all really is it? im not gonna go on about how this could happen and how that could happen blah blah blah-in my opinion you got off lucky with a knackered engine at least your alive

you say you have had the worst luck with engines and you want them to be reliable etc.................perhaps 1st thing you need to do is grow up and have a word with yourself mate as maybe your the reason your having bad luck

with regards to your engine........a bottom end from a 7 or 8 means from an sti impreza version 7 or 8 if it were me i would buy a low mileage lump for £1k ish from a decent breaker (plenty on here) then drop a new timing belt kit on it and water pump and a good service and maybe an uprated oil pump from the likes of cosworth

you can fit forged pistons but if you budget is small i wouldnt bother, sti bottom ends have forged pistons so you would be better off with one of them for the price

Why on earth would you do that to your engine? Did it have a front mount fitted???

Ok i was basicly trying to get 150mph out of it and was changing down to 4th at 100 going up to 120mph then changing to fifth. Just wanted to see the 150 mph mark 10 mile goes very quickly when you try this.

AND i have a top mount sti intercooler. Switch for the spray inside.

Theres another switch next to it that i have no clue what it does.

im 22 and still being wreckless dont worry ive learnt my lesson.

Looking for a STI bottom end now and ideas ?

Had it been remapped at all?

If you have done the bearings, and it sounds like you have, then you will need a new bottom end, new oil modine and possibly a new oil pump. The rest will need to be cleaned THOROUGHLY, or bits from the knackered lump will do the next one

Look for a decent one from a breakers, but it would pay to have it split and new bearings in, maybe get it forged. Otherwise, you may have the same problem down the line, maybe in 3 months, maybe in 3 weeks.........maybe in three years.

If you decide to go the 2.5 route, you may also ned a 6-speed box, since the extra torque will kill a 5-speed.

We have an STi 7 short block from a car we're doing a big power build on.
It ran fine when we dynoed the car on arrival. £800.
Please bear in mind that we aren't selling it to anyone, our customer is, the cash would just go to pay part of our customers bill.

you may find the problem is the scoop and ic at that kind of speed, the air goes over the scoop and not into your ic, therefore inlet temps go through the roof resulting in det which some say is the killer of big ends

140 for ten miles

You would be jailed if you had been caught for that Your *** would of been pounded daily as you would be fresh meat for big Al and his soap would only be used the first time

Ok we all try the maximum once or twice but not for 10 miles
A new engine is the least of your problems
But reading your age have taken that into consideration

Garage at £30 an hour ?
Suggest you take the whole car to a specialist like Alanwho is well respected and know what he is doing along with lots of recommended specialists on this forum As theybare specialist cars to work on

140 mph for 10 miles ????
Why is everyone getting so exited about this statement ??
If you guys had a car capable of 140mph at the tender age of 22 you would of done it too..
Your just jealous because your XR2s and Nova GSIs could barely do 115mph..
Lordharding maybe you should keep your Big dong fantasies too yourself..
To the Original poster, I hope you can get your car sorted as soon as possible. I also would recommend the STI block rather than going down the repairing the crap block you have now. Good luck m8

The debris from the scrap bearing will of circulated around the heads, the turbo and any other parts you care to re use on the new bottom end so be sure to clean all the parts properly which will take some time.
