What sort of power you aiming for? A UK WRX block is open deck, some have run around 550bhp but you are into unsafe territory at that level. Far better to source a cdb and do the build properly, will only cost you £400 - £500 including machining and cleaning costs etc, pennies when you consider the cost of a rebuild imo.

As long as you don't plan on going over 500 your block will be fine to use imo

I understand, I have just gone through a failed CDB with full supporting mods and Bob Rawle map of apx 360, it's my second rebuild now, with the "current"CDB set up only lasting 6k. I'm on a tighter than ever budget this time round, so no doubt with the WRX block build my next map will be set up accordingly - with Bob again (third time). Do you think the block and head match would be OK ?

Cheers, no not near to 500, though that would be nice - the car has 08 Sti turbo fitted at the mo too.

We're a little unsure at the moment, Head gasket went by the look of it and a con rod broke in half causing internal failure and damage to all but one cylinder/piston - the CDB was damaged too - the pics are on the Welsh section and the thread is "SickBug" !!

UK WRX block should be OK for your build and should on this will be no problem to fit AVCS from yours, all JDM WRX have AVCS and using Open deck block EJ205,like we have and we are running on this block 490bhp

But still think should be better have look for CDB,which will be better for your build

Thanks Jura - I know a CDB would be good but funds are tight at this time I'm gutted my CDB died on me........I can well see the point of building a higher BHP engine and running safe with it at lower power

A head gasket failure - and also a snapped con rod, resulting in damage to 2 cylinders/pistons. There's pics of the damage on the Welsh section, thread is entitled "SickBug" and the pics are on page 4 or 5....thanks for your advice

You threw a rod so any block is bound to get damaged. The block didnt cause the problem
