Default Jerky acceleration at WOT

Went out today for a drive in my classic WRX and I noticed that past 3500rpm it would suddenly stop accelerating, slamming me forward, then start again slamming me back, it would do this until I changed up.

However it doesn't do this when you accelerate gradually, so at first I thought it was traction control kicking in because it was a wet day. But then I was informed classic imprezas don't have traction control.

What could it be?

1995 classic saloon WRX. Larger injectors, Turboback exhaust and remap.

Been told it's probably the spark plugs.

Definitely worth checking the plugs and leads first

Sudden loss of power whilst at WOT could be overboost, have a good look over your boost pipework between the turbo compressor oulet, wastegate and boost control solenoid for any splits or detached pipes etc.
