pretty straight forward, my only problem was squeezing it in place and keeping the gasket in the cover without trying to get the sealant over everything

I did this the other day. Whip the airbox/filter off and possibly your header tank. You'll need a 10mm ring spanner to get to the 3 bolts at the very bottom.
My advice would be to also take off , clean and silicone or even better replace the 2 gaskets around the coil packs and the half moons.

I built mine all back up and oil still leaked. So took it all apart again, sorted out the half moon at the back of the head just above the exhaust and all seems fine now a week later.

What are these "half-moons"?

How many are needed for ONE side?

Do all cars need them?

Are they the same for all cars?

there 2 in each head.

there half moon cut outs at the back of the head,i can only guess its for fitting/removal of the cams as they sit right at the end of them.
the plastic inserts make the surface flush for the rocker cover to sit on but do tend to leak/weep.

if doing the rocker cover fix best to replace them at the same time,i alway buy new ones as removal is hit or miss whether they crumble/crack

Hi. I done my rocker cover recently and it's still leaking. Not sure if there is a certain torque setting for the bolts. Does anyone know?

its that low most torque wrenches dont go low enough, the trick is to make sure all surfaces are 100% clean and dry, genuine gaskets are a must.
when tightening up go from corner to corner and work round so clamps down equal and tighten till the rubber starts to squash
i apply a little sealer to the bolt seals too.

use this sealer and if possible leave over night

Check the half-moon's mate. I took mine off, cleaned the gasket and siliconed it - still leaked. So got a genuine gasket, changed it - still leaked.
So! watched the engine for some time like a maniac and saw a fine mist from the drivers side far corner closest to the back and saw a fine mist.
When you have the air box/header tank slip your hand down the back of the engine and back up to the corner of the head and you will feel a semi circle.
Changed the half moon and so far no crazy smoking in traffic.

Where the gasket had too half round humps that sit across the outside cam journal, close to back of pullies iif you don't put a bit of sealer at the 4 edges it will more than likely leak, rocker cover bolts can only tighten so far as they have a collar

So, to do this job, you need gasket, one per side, half moon, one per side and sealant?

Only my driver's side leaks.

2 half moons per head, but I've never had them leak before.

You need the gasket, and the 2 plug hole seals per side. You can but the button seals for under the bolts but they are stupidly price and again I haven't seen them leak.

ONLY BUY OEM SUBARU SEALS AND GASKETS.

Putting a bit of sealer where I mentioned above is needed.

Drivers side tends to be the one that leaks, just do that one
