Power surging on part throttle? Classic uk turbo
Right well Ive just picked up my 2001 turbo 2000 that's totally standard and it seems to pulse slightly while the turbo is spooling up and on part throttle boost.
On full throttle its absolutely fine and seems to pull like a train.
I can make it drive so you don't notice it but I just yhoughtvud see if anyone had any ideas. I've not got a boost gauge and there's no fault codes present.
Any ideas?

A rather common complaint with that era of car. It's not helped by the ECU still running ~ lambda 1 on moderate load and a slow/poor lambda sensor seems to help it surge. Eventually it may throw a lambda code. Some people have temporarily disconnected the lambda sensor to see if it does it disconnected, if not then its probably that. But there are of course plenty of other things it could be - MAF, age of plugs and leads etc...

I reckon its down to boost control, my car did that with a badly adjusted boost controller so I'd look at the solenoid or check wheather there is a decat on the car as this car cause issues aswell

get a MY99 ecu also for it. MY00 ecu's are restricted a wee tad more than the MY99's
but in short, they (MY99/00 uk cars) all do it. cleaning out boost solenoid, new plugs, leads, silicone Y-pipe etc will all help smooth it out but it will still always be felt.
even prodrive ecu you can still feel it a bit

So is this a problem or am I still ok to drive as normal? If anyone can point me towards the boost solenoid then I'll give that a clean.
It's just had plugs and leads.

This shold help you locate the boost solenoid in yor engine bay, it bolted to a bracket on the drivers side suspnsion tower

To clean it out you need to put the ecu in diagnostics (Assuming yors is a Classic Impreza) mode by connecting the green and black plugs under the drivers side of the dash , you may need to remove the panel to gain access.
Turn the ignition on, By doing this you are open the solenois to allow you to clean it out with carb cleaner.
Once yo have that done you need to spray a small amount of wd40 in the there to lubricate it.
Then turn the ignition off anf disconnect the green and black plugs again
Job Done
Here is an link explaining about putting the car into diagnostic mode
