Okay so in a classic you have the fuel pump and 3 hoses:
On the other side to the right of this panel, there is another panel screwed down that you can remove, i don't have a photograph at hand but there is a hose coming from it.
Does anyone know what this hose is?
Thanks

Any idea how the breater would work then as surely a breater would vent to the atmosphere, and they try prevent that with the carbon canister.
Thanks
Thanks

Hmm, i would have imagined that for a carbon canister system to work the tank would have to have some pressure to push the vapour to the canister to be stored, maybe a one way valve breater?
Thanks
Thanks

Basically the jet pumps uses the flow of the return line to create a vacuum and draw fuel from the far side of the tank to the pump side, a poor attempt to reduce the chances of fuel starvation when cornering.

As above the jet pump is a venturi device to draw fuel from t'other side of tank.................

Ahhh.
The carbon canister isn't needed and can be removed but the car is mapped for it, so what i'm wondering is how much would it effect the running of the car?
Thanks

Some good information here! The purge control valve and the rollover valve - are they located on the OSF suspension tower? By the map sensor?
Also the connection to the inlet, is that unter the throttle body?

Just a little thread 'hijack'
all the time i have had my car, whenever i took the petrol cap off, there was a 'sucking' sound as the pressure inside the tank equalised : following a problem, where the fuel pump was removed, i no longer get the 'sucking' sound -- Is this likely to be a problem with the 'Venturi' device mentioned ??????
Shud say - car runs fine (with or without SUCK !!! )

I don't see why the carbon cannister removal would have any impact on the required map... could someone please explain?

My car makes a sucking sound sometimes when i take the cap off, i don't think it's an issue?
The carbon cansiter system has a solenoid that released the stored fumes into the intake, or something along them lines, so it burns it on release, so i would imagine somewhere along the line this is mapped in?! I've yet to find out though from anyone.
Thank

From the MY97 Technical Description manual.............
I think the relevant word is "absorbed".
