anti lag?
can anyone explain exactly what anti lag and launch control do? and pro's an cons
does launch control put less or more strain on transmission?
upgrading to syvecs and wondering if worth adding these options
thanks

What model/year car do you have?
Basically unless you have a 6 speed (and even then its debatable) lunch control as its commonly known as, will eat your gearbox due to the strain it puts on the transmission.
No plus points for it.
Anti lag, well no road going use, its also illegal to use on the road, so that doesnt help, it eats turbo's if its too agressive, most people just like the pops and bangs it gives so they have a little more fuelling added to do that, it also puts your egt temps up which causes det, also not a good thing.

6 speed upgrade,
i wasnt sure if launch control was easier on transmissin but guess not!
previously broke a 5 speed quite easily launching myself!
do love the sound anti lag makes but wasnt sure exactly what it does,
is it as simple as name suggests and keeps turbo spooled so you have no lag?

Sort of, most engines that can run this without issue are made for rallying, normally in the area of 100k+, but your better off with a change of turbo to something newer, quicker responding, a billet type for instance, as anti lag will kill your turbo and can really cause you issues on a standard engine (can crack your manifold, induce high exhaust gas temps, cause issues with the cylnders etc), but does it cure lag? only on a rally car
Othr options are twin scroll, this reduces lag drastially, but you will need twin scroll manifold, oil tube, sump, turbo etc, and it works best with AVCS, something your car doesnt have (new age STI's only).

reason im changing to syvecs is to run new upgrades better-
md321t billet and avcs heads in process of going on at moment. think i already have other upgrades to go with this, injectors, fuel pump, exhaust, manifold etc and 2.1 stroker
was basically seeing if worth having lc and al as alredy getting syvecs but i guess not!

Syvecs is great option there,we are running..
About the LC,depends on what your car will be,if you are planning do some drag race(Santa pod) i would say,yes you will benefit with LC,but in same time i would say, upgrade your clutch,if its put extra stress on transmission, yes and if its safe, depends on use
ALS and road cars is just for show there, pure rally ALS and your turbo will not last so much long and you will loose power brakes(brakes will be so hard to press),second thing can seriously damage your engine/valves etc
Road going ALS is really just mild and really great if you are this combining with LC on drag runs/track days

cool, i wouldnt be looking to use them full time just odd times like santa pod etc
my thinking as i would get a little extra power quicker etc and if i use sensible shouldnt harm anything

when your turbo comes on 'boost' thats obviously when you get your main power and hard acceleration. when off boost, running a large turbo or trying to accelerate in the wrong gear (too high a gear for the revs of the engine) you get 'lag' (a delay from pushing the accelerator to getting the power delivery from the turbo).
Anti lag gives the turbo a constant boost pressure even with no revs applied and the vehicle stationary. so when you push the accelerator pedal the power is more instant. lag is never fully got rid of but is reduced by a lot!
running it will cause big problems for components mentioned by the guys already but if you have all the kit to run it and dont run an aggressive set up then it'd be ok for short periods. so instead of running full boost on it you could run mild boost.
rally cars have a switch so that they can turn it off for road sections between stages as its not road legal and saves wear on the car. flat throttle shifting would also help

I have Anti Lag on my Syvecs - good fun for tunnel runs (off road ones of course) and those private multi-stories!
It does actually make a difference when accelerating through the gears with boost coming in around 200rpm earlier - I use it when overtaking in small gaps!

not sure where you info comes from but even rally engines take damage from it, thats one of the reasons they get rebuilt so often
Rally Al is as agressive as a rabid lion with tooth ache lol
