it was about 80 psi when i put the engine in but i had problems getting it to run so had to change the inlet manifold and also fitted the oil cooler off the old engine as this one didnt have it, is there any way i could have fitted that wrong?

Might be with the added oil capacity it is now pushing with the cooler in place a problem if there is one has become more evident.

What did the previous engine die off ?, if it was any sort of bearing failure & you have just reconnected the old oil cooler back into the system, you have just pumped all the crap back through your new engine.

That, and is the oil cooler controlled by a thermostat?

If it is, and you haven't pre-filled it, you going to have an oil level drop, and quite probably pressure drop when the thermostat opens.
