fitting a 2.5 bottom end to my classic need help
i bought a 2.5 sti 10 bottom end to fit to my t2000 my00 planning on usingthe 2 ltr heads and inlet ive put the engine together using 2 ltr head gaskets and while trying to sort the cam timing out there is something stopping the piston from going right to the top. i researched the build before i commited to it and i know they block and heads fit together and i also know the bottom end is good. could the 2 litre gaskets be stopping the piston from finnishing its cycle to the top ????
everything rotates as it should till they get to the top im puzzled

the valves are open as there is no cam belt on to turn then. and the heads have just been put on so there is no forgein bodies in the cylinders

you really should of used 2.5 head gaskets, if the pistons rise above the deck height, they are quite probably going to hit the gasket what thickness did you use ?

ive used 0.7 composite 2 litre turbo gaskets standard ones, is it possible the bore on the gasket is fouling the top of the piston it isnt much out one tooth i think but the 1mm ish od gasket maybe stopping the piston from completing its travel

would of thought .7 is too small as well, when i built my old 2.5 i used a 1.6mm cosworth gasket, did you calculate compression ratio when you put it together or just bolt it all up and hope for the best ?

Would imagine with '00 cylinder heads and EJ257B bottom end - somewhere between 1.1 and 1.6mm thick gaskets and make sure you opt for MLS (multi layer steel gaskets) and not the composite gaskets which tend to fail around the lower coolant gallery's.
