Default Whining 13 year old (wagon)

Hello Snetters,
I have a problem with my Impreza 2.0l wagon 1998 She has just sailed through her MOT in December requiring no work, but there is a whining sound coming from the rear somewhere, I first noticed it last August and the two mechanics (both reliable and experienced) that I have asked to look at the car can't figure out what the noise is. So far I've had wheel bearings on both side changed a new cat but I'm starting to think I might have to send her to the giant scrap heap in the sky
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what the noise could be?
Thanks for reading

Could just be a little diff noise mate. Its worth changing the oil if it hasn't been done for a while. If its loud then it's worth changing but if it's not too bad then just give it fresh oil and don't worry about it.
