Default Speed Sensor Damaging MAF, or the Other Way Round?

Hi all,

When I had my Subaru both the MAF and speed sensor went within a few minutes of each other. Now, from memory I think it was the speed sensor first, which then made the MAF go. But could someone please clarify if this would be correct and why it happens?

Reason I'm asking is because a friend is having the same problem now, and he wants to just buy the speed sensor and try that first. Obviously I wouldn't want him to buy that only to have it go again because MAF is still faulty. But, as I said, I'm 90% sure it happened the other way round anyway - so he should be fine to try the speed sensor first in that case?

Thanks,

Alan

The speed sensor that is on the gearbox? I know that if it stops working it disables the AVCS(on STI`s) but wasn`t aware it could do damage to the MAF, Are you sure it wasn`t just a coincidence??

Hmm. You might be right. But I just seem to remember the specialist I took it to suggesting (I think) that the speed sensor being away could have caused the MAF to fail. If the two can't be related in any way then it must have been a coincidence.
