Headlights Fooked. Balls

Headlights Fooked. *****
So decided to replace my perfectly functioning dipped beam bulbs for these '100% more powerful' units. Fitted them, powered them up and 'oh, only the nearside is working'.
The nearside is working as it should but the offside is only lit up faintly.
Put the old bulbs back in thinking it was a dodgey new set and 'oh crap' same problem again now but with the old bulbs.
Thought was an earthing problem so routed an earth lead straight from the bulb fitment to the chassis and no improvement.
Any ideas??

Just re read. Youve tried an earth. If its faintly lit. That would suggest a broken wire or bad connection. Check the wiring at the plugs where the plug onto the bulb. Ive had to cut the plug of in the past and use spade connectors

Coz i tend to agree with you. You say it lights up dimley. i would expect if the fuse had blown for it to be totally dead. The fuse could be blown and your getting some back feed via the earth from the other side. But thats pretty unusual. So some voltage would indicate a connection or broken wire to me.

Ok so can someone clarify which fuse is for dipped beam? I can only see a relay.
Checked voltage readings and there's power (11.7 volts) to relay, but no power to headlight itself. As said the bulb is now evidently getting feedback from the earth point.
Presumably there is a short somewhere between relay box and headlight. *****
