Default 2003 JDM STI, MPH Converter, where?

Hello,

The vehicle is 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX STI, JDM- version GDB-C.

I haven't found MPH converter in my car anywhere. Would anyone be able to help me?

The VSS connector and its wires were intact and no signs of converter. I have also removed the gauges to look for the converter, nothing there either. Is there some other places where importers will install the converters? Or is there a possibility that the whole VSS has been replaced by a UK- one?

Please let me know if you know something.

-Ville

Usually found under the inter cooler on top of the gearbox, A 3 pin connector block, It's normally tapped into that, The converter should have 4 wires coming off it.

Hello Gaz,

Yes, do you mean the typical converter which is plugged between the vehicle speed sensor and the plug that leads into the interior harness. I couldn't notice it as the wires did look like oem ones.

Any more ideas?

Daz, do you mean inside the clocks or soldered in between the wire harness behind the gauges?

Mine is a small black box soldered into loom behind clocks, I noticed it when I removed clocks to route the wires for my mic on the pillar for my hands free kit, was easy to spot
If car has been through sva clocks must have been converted

most mph convertors are fitted inline on the vss wiring coming from the gearbox, not on plugs so they will look factory but hard wired and soldered into the loom under the intercooler. i personally have fitted dozens of them and that is the easiest and fastest place to fit them.

daz1968, yeah I know what you mean. Typically they are found around that area, however there wasn't anything there.

10bats, okay I have to look again since they might have been covered so well I wouldn't able to see it last time. I don't believe they would have changed the complete VSS in favor of the MPH converter.

I let you know,

Ville

10bats, do you know where I could reprogram my clock's odometer? It is a JDM unit with red dials and it uses different chip than the UK/EU- models and we couldn't alter the clocks because of it. Any ideas?
