Question

Filled up today and went about my business, over the period of 1-2 hours the car, 94'Wagon, began to hesitate or jerk on low rev acceleration eg on to a roundabout in 2nd. It also happens in 1st and 3rd normally between 1500-2500 revs, greater symptoms the slower my speed but there more and more and appearing to be getting worse. Lifting the bonnett reveiled a ticking noise over by the air box that increases with revs.
Please advise, serious or duff fuel?, Thank You.

Could be that you have got a bad batch of fuel. Best bet is to use it as quick as poss. and get another tank, pref. Shell Optimax.

Reset ECU after the re-fill. The ticking noise is probably the boost control solenoid. The noise is the solenoid opening and closing to control (reduce boost) possibly due to detonation from the bad fuel.

Cool

I would guess that the dodgy fuel theory is probably correct. I had to put normal SUL in my WRX on Sunday morning as I couldn't find a Shell station to top up with my customary 98RON Optimax.

The performance degradation was quite noticeable - so I would guess that dodgy fuel would give even worse performance and the solenoid clicking sounds quite likely.

I would always recommend Optimax rather than ordinary SUL as it is 2RON points higher and closer to the Jap Spec fuel my car was designed for. It only costs 3p per litre more than ordinary unleaded which means that it is generally cheaper than ordinary SUL as well :-)
