Default oil pressure/gague

my car has decided that when i turn shaply or brake suddenly it makes my oil pressure gague drop and bleep at me,

my car sounds and drives normal.

also when i boot it the oil pressure needle on the gague dont go above 6 bar

and the needle is all over the place

so im thinking its the sender thats either dirty or needs a new one

any ideas?

also where does the oil pressure sender fit in the engine bay?

thanks darcy

By time you oil pressure light comes on you've already got no oil, levels would be my first check, and then look for leaks

think i found the cause, when i got back there was a little puddle of oil, and it seems to be from the Driverside rocker cover gasket

Get that one fixed, oil dripping on to the up-pipe is great for bonfire night but not really what you want

Import car parts for mine, you need the gasket set , 2 x half moons and possibly the gaskets/washers for the rocker cover bolts. Also worth using some 3-bond silicon seal to make sure

Rich at FB used all of this on mine and no issues since it's been done.

Best way to check the sender is to replace it with a known good one, the output will just be a voltage and you could strap a voltmeter across it but I don't have any idea what outputs to expect.

Again with the lights, the needles and backlight are usually the same light, but without knowing the gauge it would be difficult to check - on the wiring is there a single connection for lighting or multiple ones. On both Defi's and auto-gauges I have only seen a single connection. Again is it just one gauge or do you have more than one, and if so are the all the same. If they are you're either really unlucky that they're all knackered or I'd suspect a wiring fault, assuming the gauge is supposed to light up (which I would expect).

Might be on a classic, it just seemed very tight around the turbo/up-pipe whereas for the passenger side you just needed to whip out the washer bottle

Don't forget to use some 3-bond, they're reknowned for not sealing if you don't
