Default slight knocking tapping on idle after rebuild

hi guys im after some advise i have just rebuilt my engine after ring land failure i have fitted 100mm piston (ej25) whilst it was in bits i had the crank polished to suit new acl bearings i set all the valve clearances to subaru guilde lines but theres a slight knock or tapping whilst its idling as soon as its reved it clears ive checked the oil pressure and on cold idle its 7 bar this goes down to 3.5 when hot on idle and 6 when reved ive been told to run in on 15/40 oil by the company who i bought the parts off i dont know if this is correct ? but i dont know where to go from here should i run it and see if it clears ? and risk knacking it up again or do i pull down please advise cheers

All I can say is that I'm yet to hear a subaru engine that I would call 'quiet' tbho and that is whether it is forged or not but when they are forged it just becomes worse

Could be piston slap, its very common. I would just whip your timing belt covers off and check cam bolts are tight. Had one in a few weeks ago that the customer had built himself. It had the same sort of noise & when we checked the cam pulleys we found one of the bolts was loose!!!

Also, you need Millers CFS 10/60 or Silkolene Pro R 15/50 Engine oil. 15/40 wont work very well when cold - it will take a bit of warming up and wont take a lot of abuse!

Pardon my ignorance but the viscosities of 15/50 and 15/40 when cold are the some, no?
