Switchabe boost - benefits ??
Anyone here advise me what the benefits are off having switchable boost applied upon a newage remap ?? only ask as it does seem a popular option and yet I am struggling to see why ?? surely if you are going to want to use the extra cars power you would want max boost, if you dont want to drive quick and are content to drive off boost then thats fine, so why would you require a lower boost setting ??
asked a mapper from here who admitted the same to me and that it would only be good for say when the wife was driving the car ( sorry female s/netters !! ) or car was going to the garage so that some young mechanic could not use max performance off your car during say a " test drive " !!
so okay from those that have switchable boost installed why ??!! where / when would you use it ??

None! I have had it on two cars now and never used it!
Maybe if you were putting your car into a garage you never knew or trusted you could use it but i would never put my car into somewhere like that and my garage know the demister trick

Okay as I thought !!
for some reason thou I can see why so many folk are happy enough to pay additional fees - £50 extra in my particular case just to be able to switch to a lower boost just incase the " wife " drives the car or when the keys are handed to the garage for the car to be looked at !!
is it perhaps the novelty / talking factor , " I have a switchable boost switch " ??
as I say for some reason I kinda fancied it myself until it was pointed out to me why ??!!
cheers for the explanation even if as you say I kinda answered my own question anyway !!

I always get carried away, so I would be on low and hit the high if I came across any competition so to speak. Also lower boost says less chance of det, so you could run two fuels, so if you got stranded and could not get V Power you could change to a lower boost.

One of my switchable maps is a dead map, so that will hopefully slow down a thief a few more seconds. Plus (haven't tried it yet) it will eliminate the need for me to disconnect the crank sensor during oil change time.

Okay cheers yep suppose thats is a viable reason- if a car is maped using v-power is it unsafe to fill with anything other than v power or at least a top grade fuel such as as you say if you were caught out ??

Bad point,
Turning down the boost the night before a trackday, (incase it got robbed)
Going on the beer and getting hammered,
Doing the trackday, Hungover.
Coming out the gate after, thinking **** i never turned up the boost.
Im guessing its full boost and the safe boost your talking about.
1. safe boost on when herself is driving
2. safe boost on incase it gets robbed, at least youl know the ******* didnt get the best out of it, and you might get it back with the engine intact.

Don't get mixed up with 2 switchable separate bespoke maps... and one map but with 2 switchable boost targets. Different things.
When I had a Apexi PFC on my old WRX, on the Commander you could choose between 4 boost settings (on only the one map, obviously - no dual map feature on the PFC). I had it on the lowest (c.0.8bar) for when I was running in a rebuilt engine. Handy in that particular scenario....

Switchable boost maps are of limited use imo..... switchable boost/fuel/ignition maps are a whole world of extra functionality though.
