Default New Age WRX - which maps better 2L or 2.5?

Thinking of buying a WRX Wagon. It will need mapping of course, so which maps better, or put another way what sort of gains could be realised with a few sensible mods (induction/decat/filters) and a map om each?

Cheers

you will always get more torque from the 2.5, it also already has 550cc injectors so a vf43 with a decent exhaust and panel filter will transform it, you just have the probability of head gasket failure and higher roadtax on most of them, the 2.0 superb when mapped but wont match the 2.5 torque.

The 2.5L nets 330lb/ft+ and 250-270bhp depending on mods. The 2L is more like 280lb/ft and 260-280bhp. Out of each of those I'd pick the 2.5L as a road car any day, with just a map on they have excellent tractability.

I did a hawkeye WRX on the test mule thread, that should give you some ideas. They get even more amazing after a decat up pipe and turbo back and you can see more like 370+lb/ft, which is immense in a road car when it pulls from 3000rpm.

The other benefit of the 2.5L WRX is it has intake AVCS as standard which is really the key to opening up the low-end grunt on them.

Personally i would go 2.0L New age STi engine,2.5L great day to day drive, but still think lots of problems with HG and can hold high boost(yes of course will handle with some mods like pinning block etc)

Have a VF48 on my 06 wrx 2.5 with sports cat 2.5" system, panel filter, walbro and sti top mount. Made 334bhp 381lb/ft and is a brilliant every day drive. Pulls like a train and torque is fantastic. Gets my vote!

The new age cars don't need a replacement ECU to be re-mapped do they?

Nope, just Ecutek of OpenSource don't get a 2.0ltr wagon, costs too much to get it quick 2.5 is the better car and won't suffer some mild tuning as a daily grind

Yes, from everything I've seen I like the sound of the 2.5 with as you say a mild tune

Was thinking about a Focus ST until I came to me senses (no offence to ST owners, it's that they're just mot the same as a Scooby)

Still a very quick car once remapped thou, the dire MPG figures that were being reported put me off buying one but its about the first ford I has seriously considered since my mk3 escort which back then put me off Fords for life !!

Well there's dire and then there's Focus ST dire. I've had a PH thread running about the Focus ST

Here's one comment on fuel economy

I had my ST3 (Dreamscience mapped) for 3 years and it was fantastic for everyday driving. Economy was appalling with 17mpg round town and 23 - 25 on my daily commute. On my Prodrive day I got 6mpg round their circuit.
