Default Engine Gone, rebuild or get new/secondhand one?

so i originally thought the big end was gone in my engine but after having it stripped it turns out it was major engine failure, pistons, heads, head gasket rods crank, both heads need refurbs blah blah blah so its a full rebuild.

Also the up-pipe split, am i right in thinking the pipe is between the manifold and the turbo and the down pipe is the turbo to the exhaust?

Anyway what are my options?
im guessing a rebuild will be between 3-5k, is it worth doing it or do i get a new or secondhand engine?

my thinking is if i get a second hand engine then there is nothing to say that this could not happen again, where as if i get it rebuilt with uprated parts then at least i know the engine can handle the power safely? ( 340bhp, 360 torques) And i imagine a new engine would be colosal money

third option, spend the money on a new car and start the tuning process all over again !!!

any advice is greatly appreciated

Re-build it with some decent parts to support the power you are running, I take it it's a 2.5 with std cast pistons? Aviod second hand as you never know what your buying and you could end up spending twice.......or more! The up pipe links the manifold to the turbo, an opportunity to fit a nice decat which makes a big difference.
340/360 is relatively mild tuning but the cast pistons are the weak point.

Whats wrong with ebay, I advertise on ebay, but I don't sell second hand engines, there are some very iffy 'engine specialists' on there though!

getting it priced up with forged pistons race bearings, std crank is good enough for the job i need, then cosworth gaskets and forged rods as well! and a load of other things which need replacing!

For that level of tune you only really need the pistons, the 'bolt' type rods are more than man enough, the heagaskets are also fine as standard. You could spend a fortune on Cosworth parts but you really don't need them, unless you have future plans of course

If its already at sc then they'll never let you down with a build. just need to work out how far you want to go with it all really. 2.5 so you could go mad and have one that will easily handle 500+ if its forged and pinned.

I'm not sure how far I want to go with! I'm thinking I've spent that much money on it at this stage that I will probably go all out at some stage!!! Throw a 6 speed in down the line!! 500bhp sounds nice tho!!!

Nowt wrong with eBay engines - assuming you get them from Andy that is! My 2.5 build is still going strong and now at 440BHP (held back by std headers).

i have just got a price for it and its more than i thought, but there is quite a bit of work to do to the engine

it was the dreaded detonation that cause the problem, using ****ty fuel is the diagnosis we came to!!!

have a lot to think about now!!
