Classic temp gauge question
Hi all,
Just a question about my Year 2000 Classic Turbo water temp gauge...
Where does/should it sit when the fans kick-in ?
To check temps I hooked it up to my EcuExplorer and all seems fine - coolant temp rises and the fans kick-in around 95'c and cools down to steady mid 80's, and during this the gauge in mine NEVER goes above half way.
Even tonight when sat in heavy traffic for half an hour the fans would cut in & out but the gauge wouldn't budge above half
I have fitted a new coolant sensor a short time ago - but it was happening with the old one too...
Thanks,

To be perfectly honest fella the gauge on a subaru and in particular classic are bloody awful lol for letting you know what's going with the water temp,it will sit at half way until its to late and the engine has boiled as good as.
The temp would need to hit 98-100 before you will see it rise from half.
Best bet is to get a after market gauge if you want to monitor the temp.

I have a Defi and the OE gauge in mine.
The Defi starts to move almost as soon as I start the engine, whereas the OE gauge sits below the base until the Defi reaches 60degrees or so.
TBH, I think the OE gauge only reads between 60 and 110 degrees, and I'm not sure how accurate it is, I only kept once I had the Defi as it was a little disconcerting to glance at the clocks and see it below zero.

Thanks for the replies guys,
It don't overheat or anything - just seemed strange that the guage was half-way when fans come on ! All other cars (non-scoobies) I've had the fans come in when almost at the red.
Will prob look to fitting an aftermarket one then when the mods start getting done !
Thanks again,
