BP Ultimate, V-Power or Optimax?
Gang, i've heard alot of rumours that a few wrx's or sti's have gone "pop" using ultimate and wondered what peoples experience of the best fuels for their cars? I saw an interesting youtube clip comparing supermarket vs ultimate vs optimax and optimax came out on top. I used to use ultimate on my r33 gtr skyline and use the expensive diesel for my new 320d (but i have a fuel card and get the nectar points) - any advice would be much appreciated.

I have found through mapping cars over the years that v-power is the most det resilient, you can run more ignition advance with it than any other super unleaded fuel.
I am lead to belive this is due to the fuel being engineered with a higher octane rather than the others that have just had octane booster added, i dont know how much truth is in that though

V power for me too.Haven't tried tesco's.
A while ago I read a fast ford mag where they tested all of them on a focus RS and mapped it for each fuel and printed the results. The best one at the time was BP 103 but it was 349p per litre,so v power was the closest.
This was a couple of years ago before tesco's was available.

In short, BP ULimate is SH!TE!!!
My old car showed less knock on Esso 95 than it did on Ultimate.
I put NOTHING but V-Power or Tesco 99 in the Type R now. BP Ultimate is ok if you've been mapped specifically for it but if you've had your car mapped for V power and use Ultimate then don't expect it to perform aswell. It has been known to throw some CEL lights and I know of a couple of examples where its cost an engine.
So just incase you missed it the first time BP Ultimate is SH!ITE!!!!!!

here is test of few fuels, this will help
http://www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/t...s_Update.shtml
In the test BP103 has made on cars just marginal increase in BHP(few bhp which you are never see on road)...

Plenty of us use the standard ECU, but that doesn't always relate to it using a standard map..... assuming your map is OE then I would say you could throw any brand of fuel in, with the minimum octane rating as advised (Unleaded or Super Unleaded).
Assuming all the above, I doubt you would see much difference between each brand of fuel and certainly nothing that would result in their own right to blow your engine up. In short.... don't worry about it.
If your map is modified then that could be a whole new ball game.

Everything is relevant.

But that's comparing apples with pears is it not? Mr Moff was talking about his reference to "tests" in relation to a car being mapped for each fuel, not just filled up with fuel and ran on a dyno. You would expect to get more than a "few" BHP increase using BP102, if you mapped for it, over VP or TESCO's.
Everything is relevant.

Yes everything is relevant...
In your view is worth use BP fuel,in my view not, cost too much and easier way its buying and using Methanol and get mapped for Methanol.
Yes this test been carried only on unmapped cars, with mapping should be more than few bhp,but has been carried out like has been.

Jura,
Please excuse me if I have this wrong.......
I didn't intend or make any comment on BP102 being worth it. I just highlighting that your referral to it's testing was based on not remapping for it, whereas Mr Moff was referring to it being mapped for it. Hence the apples and pears comment, in case someone else read those two statements and came up with the wrong conclusion.
