Default oil in engine bay

I have a 1998 wrx sti, recently removed inlet manifold for painting and done a oil chnage. Been ok for a couple of days but just pulled up at a mates with smoke coming from under the bonnet!!! The oil level on the dipstick is a bit on the high side could this have something to do with it?
From a quick look there looks like the oil could be coming from some kind of breather on the manifold WITHOUT a hose on it? Is it possible I missed a hose? I'm going to have a better look tomorrow but if anyone has any ideas or which direction I should be looking at it would be apprcieted.

Thanks
