i own the worlds slowest impreza bugeye help
please help me i brought my wrx 2001 bugeye a month ago it hasn,t ran right the whole time i owned it.Its standard apart from a full decat exhaust and a dump valve.I changed the plugs and the turbo and the turbo inlet pipe a week ago the previous owner did not look after this car various reasons i could list.
Any way my problem is when i hit boost nothing really happens like im lossing all my boost plus it feels like its holding back if anyone has any ideas please list them il work throu them .
not had a very good start to subaru ownership but i will not be defeated as i love the car and saved hard to own one plus my son tells his mates i own a race car hes 7 thanks

I think you're best bet is to get it to a specialist or at least on a code reader first to see what faults it might be registering. Where abouts are you, I'm sure someone local to you will be able to help you out.

The full decat maybe causing problems if it hasnt been mapped for it. Are you aware of any mapping the cars had? Athough it would normally overboost then the ecu would cut it.
You need to check all the intercooler pipework, the intercooler itself for leaks and splits make sure all joints and connections are tight. It would also be prudent to put the original dump valve on if you have one or even get a second hand one as that maybe leaking off boost if not sealing correctly

thanks im not sure what the boost is as i dont have a boost gauge. The car was modded before i got it.I cant see any mapping work so yeah it could be the exhaust. I can see no pipes are split or come off. There are no fault codes as i did pay 60 pound for subaru to check it.Im baffled the boost solenoid has a strange pipe in between it like a repair pipe to join it could that be it i came take some pictures

get rid of the dump valve? i know classic's run far better on a whole with standard re-circ valves in place
also is there a way to reset the ecu like on the classics by plugging a couple of plugs in under the dash? try api david or jgm on here they would know if its possible.

my 2001 bug was running poor for a while too, it was really intermittent, sometimes it went well other times sluggish as hell, then a rattle developed and become louder and louder, was told it was turbo, then told it was my cat on the down pipe had all these changed still rattled! in the end it was the cat in the up pipe which was loose and blocking the exhaust, i know you said its decatted but i didnt even realise it had a cat in the up pipe! only a suggestion

If it's a Bailey dv12 take it out asap as I fitted one to my 02 bug and it ran like a bag of ****! Now with the standard recirc its back to it's best, no juddering or thinking about maybe accelerating soon when you put you're foot down lol
The Bailey dv12 really was the worst purchase I ever made, my girlfriend told me to sell it.... my reply? "I would never inflict this piece of garbage on another scooby driver"
Makes a nice paper weight though :-)
Oh and I agree with the above, maybe in need of a re-map?

Would be my first suggestion too based on the symptoms. Saw one myself today suffering in the same manner and it isn't the first.

Thanks all soon as i can find a recirulating dump valve i will rip that baily dump valve off and also own a new paper weight
Im also going to have the car remapped anyway as no doubt it needs it i will report back on the matter but my guess is the dump valve to
off to the wanted ads for a recirulating dv

I run a VTA BOV on my Bug and have no problems whatsoever. Running a nice hearty 345BHP.
I would suggest speaking to a specialist and getting the 'map checked.
Silly question, but do you hear the valve actually dump - ie make the tsscchhhhh noise? If not, it could suggest that your ECU has placed you in limp mode, and not boosting the system. This could help identify the problem?

as above, check for pipe leaks, ditch the dump valve and replace with the standard unit then remap for the full decat.
my old bugeye was running 278bhp and 280 torque with these mods
turbo back decat system (which you have)
Walbro fuel pump (pick up for £50)
STi Panel filter (personal choice)
EcuTek Remap by (jgm) (Recomended)

All the reviews i've seen on it say the same too
I suggest doing a quick deal with leeturbo2000 and getting a re-circ back on for the time being, and if you really want a VTA I think HKS and Forge may be a little better, but I have no personal experience with them so can't say for sure
Good luck mate
