Default Iridium plugs-safe now?

I recall a few years ago a bit of a scare regarding the integrity of Iridium plugs when used in relatively powerful engines. An instance or two of the electrode insulator failing were reported.
I have a set of Denso 'tough' VK22 (iridium centre electrode/platinum ground) and would like some reassurance before fitting!
Is anyone using these or similar, with success? (I've used NGK iridium before with no probs.)

Thought I'd revive this thread for any more comment if possible.
